Bose QuietComfort 15 Review

Silence Descends

Bose QuietComfort 15 review

Bose has long been a brand that invests heavily in noise-cancelling headphones, they have designed several generations of such. The QuietComfort 15 is their flagship model. The ear cups are not small earphones but proper full size headphones.

SUMMARY

Bose QuietComfort 15 is good but no cheap deal. And quiet.

PLUS
Comfortable.
Good sound.
Effective noise reduction.
MINUS
Expensive.
Dependent on the battery.

Comfort

One feature we like about QuietComfort 15 is the size. They are large, but they are never tiring to wear, which some headphones can be. Also, the pads are very soft, which means that they are comfortable to wear on your head. I myself own a model from the first generation of these headphones and although they are very comfortable, the latest models are even lighter.

Peace And Quiet

It should be clear that even though these are really good headphones, they are not for audiophiles. These are headphones that are primarily intended for those who travel a lot or are in environments with a lot of background noise. Compared with many other headphones in the market they sound particularly good, but like I said: it's the silence that counts.

Bose QuietComfort 15 accessories

QuietComfort 15 has active noise cancellation. This means that they are powered by one AAA battery, and without it you won´t hear the slightest peep from them. In contrast, the battery will last an extremely long time and you can easily ride a plane from NY to Los Angeles without having to worry about running out of power. For the sound attenuation to work, Bose uses microphones that sits on the inside and the outside of the cups. They analyze both the sound and the noise from the outside and then send a so-called “anti-noise” to eliminate most of all the ambient noise. Personally, I often ride a train and when I put on the QC 15 they will remove virtually all noise from the train and all the talk from the other passengers. You´re effectively sitting in your own little cocoon. Another advantage is that you can remove the cable from the sound source. Then you can simply use the headphones to get silence.

It may be a good idea to try before you buy. This type of headphone, which generates said "anti-noise", is perceived by some as a slight pressure on the eardrum. Some people do not react at all while others to a greater or lesser degree may feel some discomfort. Bose (and Amazon) does however have a 30 day return policy, so it is possible to change your mind.

Even With Mobile

Bose includes a detachable inline remote and microphone cable with the QuietComfort 15, so you can use the headphones with mobile phones and other mobile devices. This simply means that you replace the cord between the headphones and the audio device. The package includes cables suitable for a range of different mobile phones, as long as the phone has a 3.5mm minijack. For my iPhone, I could plug in the headphones without any adapter.

It should be noted that this is a very simple mobile cord. There are no maneuverability or other control features, just a microphone, which means that you are responding to calls in the usual way, by pressing the phone. It is perhaps a bit awkward, but the sound quality outweighs that most of the time. QuietComfort 15 has the best sound I've heard from any noise-cancelling headphone, and I've tried almost everything.

Voices are spot on and the noise reduction makes it almost feel as if the one you are talking to is right by your ear. According to those I spoke with the sound on their end is also extremely good, which means that Bose gave the headphones a really good microphone.
